The grapefruit diet was a hugely popular diet in the 80’s. All the Hollywood stars swore by it to “reduce a few sizes” for a role. But, unfortunately, it was later found that a diet that is only grapefruit and a few other limited foods can prove to be un-healthy. The hype died. But the huge weight-loss effects of adding grapefruit to your diet have not gone anywhere.
Now, the grapefruit diet is back. With a healthy twist. Here is a twist… Follow your usual diet. Do your exercise. Burn your calories. Just eat one grapefruit with each meal 3 times a day.
A recent study was conducted by Dr Fujioka. Here is what he has to say, ‘For years, people have talked about the grapefruit diet. Now we have data that grapefruit helps weight loss. Our study participants maintained their daily eating habits and slightly enhanced their exercise routine. The only dietary change was the intake of Florida grapefruit and grapefruit juice.’
The results of the study showed that the participants who “ate” a grapefruit before every meal seemed to loose the most weight, all other factors being exactly the same. It is also worth mentioning that the participants who “drank” grapefruit also lost weight, but a little bit less. The participants whit no grapefruit in their diet lost the least amount of weight.
But how does adding grapefruit to your diet achieve this?
The theory goes that, grapefruit contains certain plant chemicals that check the amount of insulin levels in the blood. And, if you are a low-crabs diet follower, you know that having high-insulin levels makes your body store more fat & also makes you more hungry.
So, grapefruit, does DIRECTLY, what low-carb diets try to do IN-DIRECTLY! It reduces the amount of insulin in the blood and ensures that the body does not store fat.
Another very health side-effect of adding grapefruits to your diet is the fact that the effect of reduced insulin levels helps reduce the risk of diabetes.
Please note: In the 80’s there was a “Grapefruit Diet” that had a maximum calorie in take of only 800 calories a day if followed properly. It was a very restrictive diet that included only grapefruits and a few proteins (mainly boiled eggs). However, this diet was a little too extreme.
We do not recommend that you follow it. It may take a serious toll on your health. We only suggest that you add one grapefruit to your existing diet, 3 times a day, before every meal.
