It was all the rage for a while and every one has heard about it. It mad a come back in a big way in the late 90s and is still being recommended today as a way to loose weight quickly.

When you are on the Grapefruit Diet you are just meant to accompany each meal with a grapefruit. It is recommended that you also drink about 8 glasses of water per day, and strangely enough you can have unlimited amounts of black coffee.

The grapefruit diet rules out complex carbohydrates, and does not allow for picking in-between meals. The eating of most vegetables is encouraged and you are allowed to prepare them in generous amounts of butter!?

A typical day on your Grapefruit diet would look like this:

Breakfast: half a grapefruit, 2 eggs, bacon and a cup of tea or coffee

Lunch or dinner may involve grapefruit, salad, and some type of meat and the best part of this is that you eat till you are full!!

The diet works because the grapefruit juice acts as a catalyst that starts the fat burning process and that grapefruit has fat burning properties. The diet states that the more you eat the more weight you will loose! The grapefruit diet lasts 12 days, but if you want to continue, you must take at least two days off before doing so.

The only reason that a person following this diet would see success over such a short period is due to the very low total calorie content and almost complete loss of all complex carbohydrates from the diet. It has been warned that this extremely low calorie intake may be insufficient for daily nutrition. Participates of this diet have reported dizziness and stomach pains. Overall, it is best to avoid this diet if you are looking for healthy, sustainable weight loss.
