Why do we put so much value on going to the gym and holding onto our gym memberships? The gym becomes a powerful mental block for many people. I have heard it many times and have said it many times. “I just don’t have time to go to the gym.” First of all, that is not true, a simple mind shift and schedule reconfiguration and that excuse goes away. I think what we are really trying to say is “I don’t want the hassle of going to the gym, fighting over equipment and weights and spending 2 hours doing it.” That seems a bit more realistic right?
What we all need to realize in order to free ourselves from this mental prison is that our bodies are our gym. Which means, our entire environment whether it is your house, cubical, yard, a bathroom, or even a closet can be a gym. You just need your body weight, creativity, and persistence and you are set.
The gym can be useful for many, it is a cultural thing, and a psychological boost as well. Knowing that yes, you do indeed have a gym membership just waiting for you when you start your next big goal of working out can be a crutch. Hopefully this will alter your mind frame a little bit.
Your body is designed to move, to be active, and not be dependent on a physical location. Walk a trail, do some interval cardio training in a park, do body weight workouts and training at least a few times a week. Once you start to really grasp this the gym becomes and after thought. You look for universal tools to help you get in shape like the TRX suspension trainer. Which I love and you can bring this anywhere and get a great workout, no kidding!
Put simply, your body truly is your gym. Take advantage of it, and it will repay you with increased energy, better mood, and a healthier lifestyle.
