Types of Personal Trainers to Avoid

There are a lot of different kinds of trainers out there. Some are really awesome…they pump you up, get you motivated, give you great workouts, give you great nutrition advice, teach you how to lead a healthier lifestyle, and more.

Some focus their attention on you and only you when you are training together and they may go out of their way for you. Great personal trainers want you to be successful in reaching their goals. These trainers are great and if you have one STICK WITH THEM!

However, some trainers do crazy things. These personal trainers can give personal training a bad name and usually just lead you to mega frustration. Keep reading to learn some types of personal trainers you may want to avoid working with.

The personal trainer that stares at themselves in the mirror during the entire session. Sorry but if they’re staring at themselves, not only are they pretty vain, but who’s spotting you or making sure you have correct form?

The personal trainer that doesn’t listen. So you told your trainer to design an easy to follow program that you can do on your days off and you end up with something that requires some kind of Masters degree to complete. Or maybe you mentioned you have a bad knee and for some reason every workout makes your knee pain 10 times worse for days after your workout.

The out of shape personal trainer. I’m sorry but I would rather take advice from someone that practices what they preach and looks the part.

The “Know it all trainer”. Don’t worry this trainer already knows. Quit talking, he already knows and you’re probably wrong anyways.

The “Is my trainer really trying to kill me?” trainer. Ok so you’re pumped up. It’s your first workout in 20 years. You get to your session and your trainer says you’re going to warm up with a mile run followed by a 300 lb bench press and 50 jumps onto a bench. Well be prepared for either a heart attack or to be violently throwing up.

The “Where did my trainer go?” trainer. Once again your trainer is not paying attention to you and what you are doing. What exactly are you paying for here?

The one workout trainer. This is the trainer in the gym that has 10 clients with different ages, sizes, goals, and genders, yet somehow every workout is exactly the same. Do they even realize that clients with different goals and needs require different workouts?

So there you have it. Some bad qualities of a personal trainer. If you see these things happen then run FAST in the other direction.
