Mari Winsor Pilates – Total Body Sculpting

I tried the set of DVD’s from Mari Winsor Pilates because of advice from a friend who had small children at home and was trying to lose her “baby weight” but could only dedicate 30 a day to working out.

This total body sculpting is a set of three DVD’s in which Mari discuses the four principles of Pilates. The first DVD starts with an introduction to Pilates and I believe this is wonderful for someone who is a beginner or who does not know what Pilates is. She gives explanation on how to perform something called the 100, which is a way to warm up the body. Mari does a wonderful job with instructions on proper form for the arms, legs, how to breath properly, and finally, how to combine all of these elements to create one flowing movement.

I like the fact that as Mari is talking about a certain move; she demonstrates how to perform it properly and improperly. I believe that Mari performing the moves in both instances will leave little doubt to how it should be performed. Mari explains how to change the exercises based on your needs, for example, someone who has a weak back may perform an exercise at a different angle than someone who does not have a weak back.

The second DVD lasts for 20 minutes and starts with a warm up. I liked the fact that Mari kept giving reminders about proper form and giving tips on how to stretch. When I went to Amazon.com, I was quite pleased with all of the positive feedback from people who have tried this product. Some stated that they did not like the fact that she kept repeating things but the overall critic of this product was positive, as with this statement from one satisfied customer “It is a great way to strengthen your core and increase the length and flexibility of your muscles”. I especially like the sidekick part of this video, which allows your upper body to stay still while you kick your legs to the side.

The third video is where the intensity comes in. This one is a mixture of the entire 20-minute workout with some new things added in. I have to admit that I did not make it through the entire video the first time. Mari does a great job with this and there is a modified version that Dabney demonstrates.

The Mari Winsor Total Body Sculpting DVD is great for beginner or anyone who wants to start from the basics in Pilates. This series allow you to learn at your own pace then when you are ready for a more intense workout, its there for you, it is definitely the total package and I would recommend this product.
