Environmental consulting firm BCB Associates has announced plans to expand their “Project Clean Air” campaign to include daycare facilities in the greater Atlanta area. The technology evaluation study referred to as “Project Clean Air ATL Daycare”, enables participating daycares to evaluate a proprietary “active” air purification system free of charge in their facility. Child care employees and managers then have the opportunity to experience the benefits and effectiveness of this space age technology in removing pollen, dust and allergens from the indoor air as the pollen season reaches its peak. Studies in other sections of the country have shown a reduction in absenteeism of allergy and asthma sufferers, as well as by cold and flu.

According to Bruce Bley, founder of BCB Associates, studies recently conducted by their associates in California, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania showed a marked improvement in the indoor air quality of participating childcare facilities. “It’s absolutely amazing”, says Bley, “the most effective way to convince owners/directors of the real value of this system is to let them ‘breathe’ the difference in their own facilities. They are very skeptical of its effectiveness” Some might dispute statistics, but you can’t dispute how the children and staff respond. Objective results have shown healthier, livelier, more alert children that are more responsive to learning and happier, healthier staff.

BCB Associates represents one of the world’s largest manufacturers of residential and commercial air purifiers. This is a free standing “active” system that is proven safe and affordable. It does not require changing expensive filter elements and, unlike conventional “passive” HVAC systems, it does not require the air to be drawn to a device or through filters and past UV lights. It not only treats the air efficiently, but also removes odors AND, recent university tests have proven its ability to kill 99.99% of mold and bacteria and over 99.9% of the Avian Flu virus on surfaces. This technology really works and has become widely accepted since it’s use by the government during the 9/11 Pentagon cleanup and is currently in use in several government facilities. It is certified by the Space Foundation and is available to the general public through authorized independent distributors to make your home or business a healthier place to live.

Many of the major health agencies, including the EPA, World Health Organization and CDC are concerned about the quality of our indoor air. The EPA has stated that 50% of all illness is caused by indoor pollution. The American Lung Association says that you are more likely to get sick from pollution in your home and office than from pollution in the air outside. Studies suggest that children in a day care environment are four times more susceptible to upper respiratory viruses than children staying at home. According to Medline, a service of the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, day care centers pose an increased health risk for children and staff because of the exposure to other children who may be sick. Also, children can be exposed to some things in the air that are not present in their own home environment that can trigger other respiratory ailments

Sheryl Bley is spearheading “Project Clean Air ATL Daycare” and says “the issue of healthy environment in schools and daycares is important to me as a parent and grandparent. I am excited to be able to offer an alternative solution to this problem. This past cold/flu season was severe nationwide and probably will continue to get worse in the future unless we do something to clean up the indoor environment in our schools and daycares now. One metro-Atlanta area school actually had to shut down for a full week this past winter because of the high absentee level of teachers and students. The situation has gotten very serious. This system may be one way to help stop the spread of many illnesses as well as to offer some relief for allergy and asthma sufferers.

“Our company has extensive experience in residential applications”, says Sheryl. “We are now looking to expand to multi-resident applications that involve different and multiple air quality issues”. “We are looking for ten facilities willing to participate in a 5 Day evaluation of a piece of equipment that does not require installation.” Each facility will be asked to provide us with their feedback and observations regarding improvements in their indoor air quality and what they have experienced while the unit is in place. The evaluation process is simple and meant to be as non-disruptive as possible. “We will provide the technology and the survey to collect the data”. The results of these tests will be shared with the participants individually to help them learn more about the various options available for their facility.

Mr. Bley is founder of BCB Associates, a marketing and consulting firm that specializes in issues pertaining to air, water, nutritional and environmental issues in today’s home and workplace. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and a MBA from University of Hartford. He has served on various professional Boards of Directors, has represented international corporate co-owners of joint ventures.
