Can Detoxing The Body Really Improve The Skin?

So can detox programs really help the skin, or is it nothing but lies from companies who just want to make a quick buck? Detoxing and the Skin

Whilst you may only associate detox programs with weight loss, some of them are actually essential for maintaining healthy looking skin. They rid the body of any unwanted chemicals, and seem as though the skin works in conjunction with other organs in order to eliminate waste, if one of those organs is tired or not functioning properly, the skin will not properly do its job. That is where detox programs come in.   There are different ways to detox the body; it is not always about diet, though most detox programs do focus a large part of their plans on diet and exercise. It is thought that a detox diet can help to reduce cellulite, boost the skins appearance, and banish bloating. What more could you want?

There are many different versions of a detox diet and most of them aim to cut out certain foods for a certain time period. Often the foods you are allowed to eat while detoxing include raw vegetables, fruit, water, yoghurt, nuts, seeds and herbal tea. Processed foods are generally cut out altogether, as are alcohol and dairy products.

The main concern with detox diets is ‘are they safe?’ It all depends upon the length of time you do them for. Most detox diets should not be kept up for longer than two weeks. This is because cutting any food out of the diet for good is not a good idea as it robs the body of vital nutrients and minerals that it needs.  Many people suffer from side effects whilst taking part in a Detox diet, especially after the first week. These side effects include headaches, feeling lethargic, becoming irritable and being constantly tired. This is mainly due to caffeine withdrawal and the symptoms do pass over time.

Whilst undertaking a detox diet, it is possible to take supplements and they are known to really help the skin. Priobiotic products such as yoghurts, help to promote a healthy immune system and milk thistle is packed full of antioxidants, which helps with liver regeneration and it detoxifies the body.

A detox diet is generally a good idea as it does introduce more fruit and vegetables into the diet, as well as plenty of water. All of which are well known for their part in helping to achieve clear, healthy skin. Obviously weight loss is likely to occur, but the skin benefits are also really good.  Detoxing the body also helps to fight free radicals which contribute towards ageing. This means that if you detox regularly, your body will be able to fight off the early signs of ageing a lot quicker, and you will end up looking younger for longer.

Generally it is always better to ask a health care professional about the best detox diet for you. There are so many programs out there offering amazing results, but they cannot all be trusted one hundred percent. Some of them are only set up to take peoples money, and they are often pretty dangerous to follow. Proper detox programs created by professionals are the ones you need to be aiming for.

Overall, the main points of a detox diet are that you need to drink lots of water, and eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Never follow a detox program for more than two weeks unless recommended by your doctor, and you should find that you skin really looks a lot better after the program.
