Unfortunately there is a strong misconception that if you are not overweight you do not need exercise in your life. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Whether you are preaching the “I need to lose weight” speech or not you still need to incorporate cardio and strength training into your everyday life.
Healthy eating is quick becoming a part of everyone’s mantra but exercise is nowhere to be found for a lot of these people. They figure if they already know how to lose weight quickly and they have already done it or don’t need to do it at all then they don’t need to exercise.
Unfortunately this can lead to a weak body, a weak heart, and overall bad health. Sure, there are quick ways to lose weight that include exercise but just because you aren’t overweight doesn’t mean that you don’t need solid amounts of exercise as well.
There are certain benefits that you get from cardio and lifting weights that you wouldn’t get otherwise. First and foremost, you will burn fat and gain muscle. Even if you aren’t overweight, you still have fat on your body which can help you look less toned and make you feel out of shape.
You will feel tired and sluggish if you don’t know how to gain muscle mass by lifting weights. Cardio also improves your mood and helps you to relieve stress. Too much stress can affect your heart and may lead to depression and weight gain later on in life.
Cardio also combats chronic disease such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and even osteoporosis. In particular, when you gain muscle and lose fat, you strengthen your bones which wards off osteoporosis later in life.
One of the most important reasons to do cardio everyday even if you are not overweight is to strengthen your heart and lungs. You should not get winded just by doing household chores or walking up one flight of stairs. Just because you are not worrying about how many calories to eat to lose weight doesn’t mean that you are in shape.
If you get tired doing even the most mundane of activities you need to start strengthening your lungs and heart in order to deliver the oxygen and nutrients that you need to your tissues and body. When you do this, the circulation of the blood through your heart and blood vessels will improve giving you much more energy. With more energy you can do more than you ever thought possible.
Just because you don’t need to lose weight fast and easy doesn’t mean that you can avoid lifting weights either. Lifting weights increases your everyday functional strength, not to mention that it gives you a stronger back and bones.
As you age your back starts to feel the strain of everyday standing and sitting which will eventually cause pain in your lower back. By lifting weights you are keeping your bones stronger as well as your back which helps to hold you up as you get older without the pain that so frequently comes as you age.
You don’t need to write your own lose weight book to know that cardio and lifting weights is important. You also don’t have to become a body builder. You just have to realize that even if you are not overweight the benefits of cardio and lifting weights help your overall function as a person.
You will sleep better, have more energy, feel more confident, and live longer then if you just sat on the couch and did nothing. Cardio and strength training are good for your heart, lungs, and well-being, so it is important that you do not look at exercise as just a way to lose weight, but as a way to keep yourself healthy.
