The GI index diet may be new to you or you may have heard of it before and automatically dismissed it as one of those new fads concocted by the diet industry and propelled to the no. 1 bestseller with the assistance of mega advertising budgets.
Alternatively you may have embraced the concepts and adopted them into your lifestyle and seen your weight and health improve as a result.
If you fall into one of the first two categories it may be worthwhile reading the next few paragraphs because as Yogi Berra once said “you can see a lot by just looking”.
I am not going to list the many benefits of following a low glycemic index diet neither am I going to offer a number of good and solid common sense rules to stick to in order to keep you on track once you commit to such a healthy lifestyle.
The subject of this article is ‘attention’ and how to get you to discover what you have been missing and to see what you’ve have never seen before. You can then apply this to any subject matter and hopefully, if you need to, the GI index will be one of them.
Due to a number of reasons that I will not document we often perceive the world around us in a selective way and by doing so we miss so many opportunities as a result. We tend to see (or not see) what is around us and our attention is unfocused. We adopt habits and lifestyle patterns that confuse or worst still hide other possibilities available to us that we can benefit from.
Popular diets and our perceived beliefs of them are no different and this is why you need to focus your attention and break out of your mind-set and extend your beliefs. Most of us are aware of low fat diets and low carbohydrate diets in addition to the various names that they have been given or marketed as but how many of us have extended our selected perception to the low GI index diet.
Let me give you something to think about:
Have you ever been in the position where you have sought to buy a new car of a particular make, a particular model and a specific color only to find that your awareness of this make, model and color is heightened subsequently to the extent that you notice them more often that not when they pass you on the freeway.
Why is this? Well the action of you purchasing the vehicle (or at least considering buying the vehicle) has focussed your mind and cued you in. The vehicle has always been there but now you see it and perceive it in a different light.
It is the same with eating patterns you focus on what is familiar and create a perception around it that eventually becomes habit, the only downside is that habit and familiarity doesn’t only breed contempt it also causes you to be blind to other opportunities.
This is where you need to focus your attention on other possibilities around you, you are not a zombie and can create your own perception of reality based on values and experiences and things that you have learnt and can learn in the future throughout your life.
If the eating patterns that you have tried thus far have got you to a point whereby you are overweight and can’t lose the excess weight they you MUST try something different otherwise you will get the same results that you have always got.
The low GI Index diet does work and if you change your perception and focus on the belief and follow the principles of it you will find that it will almost become a self-fulfilling prophecy and a gateway to improved health and safe long lasting weight loss.
