Dental diseases such as the tooth decay and gum disease are two of the most common human diseases. Dental problems are among the most common health problems experienced by older adults. In fact, people over 65 with natural teeth have more tooth decay than any other age group. Dental problems can lead to poor nutrition. Unfortunately, these problems are often not attended to by older persons, particularly men. Some dental problems as bad breath and dry mouth might be symptoms of other serious health problems or systemic diseases. Gum disease is a serious dental problem. Gum disease has also been linked to heart disease and strokes. Gums shrink with age, exposing the tooth to decay or infection. Gum disease involves the inflammation of the gums and then infection. Gum disease can usually be prevented by good and careful teeth cleaning and regular cleanings or scale and polishes with your dentist or hygienist. Decayed teeth, which hold bacteria that can spread throughout the body, also can make a child more susceptible to other problems, such as ear and sinus infections.

A crown is a hollow cap that fits over a tooth, giving it strength and/or improving its appearance. Avoid cigarettes and chewing tobacco, which may contribute to gum disease and oral cancer. Certain medications can also aggravate gum disease, including oral contraceptives, antidepressants and heart medicines.  Gum Disease is an infection in the gums surrounding the teeth. Gum disease is also one of the main causes of tooth loss among adults. There are two major stages of gum disease: Gingivitis and Periodontitis. Such urgent dental problems include toothaches; fractured, loosened, and knocked-out teeth; jaw fractures; a dislocated jaw; and certain complications. Although dental problems are not exactly life-threatening, it is still a serious problem which warrants your concern and attention.
